Phil’s Mother also diagnosed with Breast Cancer
Private | Written by BigRedWhen I first heard this I was sure it had to be a really bad joke - unfortunately, it comes from a serious source and seems to be true: As reported by the online edition of the
San Diego Union Tribune, Phil Mickelson’s mother Mary has recently been diagnosed with breast cancer.
The sad news comes only two months after Mickelson’s wife Amy had to accept the same diagnosis and a wave of support and empathy rolled far beyond the golf community all over the world. According to the newspaper, free run 3.0 v3 femmes Mary Mickelson’s diagnosis was made public by Phil’s sister Tina who wants her mother to receive prayers and support, just like Amy did.
Mary Mickelson is scheduled to undergo surgery Friday at the same hospital in Houston where Amy Mickelson was operated one week ago. Whil Phil had already decided to not play in the Scottish Open this week, the news about his mother’s disease will certainly rule him out of next week’s British Open at Turnberry as well.
Please use the comment function to send your wishes to Amy, Mary and all the rest of the Mickelson family during these incredibly hard times.

So sorry to hear about your mother. I had breast cancer 1st stage and everything is fine now so I understand what you are going through. Just be there for both of them as I know you will be. This is a cancer that is curable especially if it is discovered early. I have always followed you on tour and respect not only your play but your family life, attitude and the way you treat your fans. I will keep both Amy and your mother in my thoughts and prayers.

We watch you play golf with awe, and cheer you on through each tournament. And now, my family and I, cheer you, Amy and Mary on to health and wholeness. Mary & Amy, Many prayers and good thoughts go out to you and all of the Mickelson family. MD Anderson is a wonderful hospital and will do their best.
July 7th, 2009 at 8:46 pm
Phil,
My mother was diagnosed with breast cancer in August, 1999 and I was diagnosed in January, 2007. We both have made a full recovery and are going strong thanks to early detection, the support of family and friends and excellent medical care - but mostly through the grace of God. Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family and especially your precious children, who can be confused and frightened by things they do not understand. Stay strong and put your trust in God - through Him, all things are possible!
July 7th, 2009 at 9:02 pm
Phil:
I am a right handed person that plays golf left handed, as is my Son. That is how we started being Mickelson fans, even though we are U of A fans from Tucson. We were at Starr Pass and watched you win your first PGA event as an amateur.
I, like many others, am a bigger fan of how you conduct yourself on and off the course. How you play golf pales to how you stick to your values, a rare act in today’s world.
I’ve been where you’re at, you are going to have to be the tree for all to lean on, especially your children. Golf..smolf…there are far more important things for you to do right now and very few more prepared to do it than you. Thoughts and prayers man….lots.
July 7th, 2009 at 9:03 pm
Phil,
My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family during these troubling times. No words can explain what you must be feeling right now, but everyone in the golf community and beyond is here to support your wife, your mother, and yourself. Stay strong and hope to see you back on the links soon!
July 7th, 2009 at 9:44 pm
I had the pleasure of getting your autograph at Bethpage and meeting your father in the merchandise building. I’ve got my tickets for Pebble Beach. I’m looking forward to seeing your Mom and Amy healthy at Monterey next year. And you’re hoisting the trophy. God Bless you and your family.

Phil:
Prayers go out to you for your mother, Mary, and wife, Amy, both recently diagnosed w/ breast cancer. Be strong and convicted. I have dealt with much loss in my family to that dreaded disease and find that being proactive in healthful nutrition for me and my family provides much comfort. If we give the body what it needs, it has an incredible ability to heal itself. That’s God’s beautiful design. Blessings.

Dear Amy and Mary, as a BC survivor of two and a half years, I understand the horrendous emotions that come along with the words “It’s cancer.” Rich or poor, young or old, beautiful or ugly, once you have been diagnosed with cancer, your perspective on life changes forever.
One of the things that really struck hard at me personally was not just the treatments and surgery I would have to undergo, but how LONG it takes to be, hopefully, cured. I felt like I was losing a big chunk of my life to cancer. There seemed to be nothing positive about the whole process.
The treatments and surgery turned out to be not nearly as bad as my fears in advance and the time passed a lot quicker than I would have imagined, though none if it is easy. Cancer is not for wusses!
While I would love to have never had this life experience (BC is definitely a club NO one wants to be a member of!), I have to say that there were actually many good things that came into my life because of BC. I no longer tolerate fools, I don’t do things I really don’t want to do because I feel I have to, and I don’t sweat the small stuff. (And needless to say, after chemo there are NO more bad hair days!)
Not least of all were the amazing people I met who held out their arms and offered support to a total stranger. I now have so many new lifelong friends that I cherish - who would have thought there could be that much good come of such a dread situation. I am hoping that you will experience this blessing in abundance, and pray that by this time next year, everything will be behind you both.
July 8th, 2009 at 7:10 am
Phil; My Mom had breast cancer when I was in middle school. I know what you are going through, not only with your mom, but your wife too. Treatments are so much better now and you have us on your support team. You are a WINNER, HANG IN THERE.
July 8th, 2009 at 12:44 pm
Dear Phil, My heart and prayers are with you. You are a gifted young man who is strong and now you have to be even stronger not just for Amy but for your Mother as well. I am confident both the ladies in your life will come through with flying colors which kn turn will bond your family even closer together, Life is precious and it should be enjoyed. Hopefully with all the support and prayers you receive, we shall have the pleasure of seeing you on the course again and Amy and your Mother by your side. God Bless.

It is bad that Phil’s wife and mother have problems. However this is Phil’s punishment for being the racist that he is and supporting the Bush family while they lie us into was and kill innocent men and women. I wish him all the pain he has brought to others.
July 8th, 2009 at 5:34 pm
I am sorry for your family. My daughter had breast cancer and 10 years later had it in the other breast. Thank goodness she did not have to have a mastectomy, but did go through the chemo and radiation both times. Her husband also has cancer and is going through the treatment for the second time and the diagnosis is not good for him as it was for her.
So I know what you are going through and as I advise my daughter-keep your chin up and remain strong so you can get through this.
July 8th, 2009 at 5:50 pm
To Larry Kidman, Be careful what you wish for sir. Shame on you to wish anyone this kind of pain especially as a punishment. You need help.

Amy,
My prayers have been with you. We were in an ASU Literature class together - remember Walt Whitman? I’ve told everyone the reports are true about what a kind and caring person you are. Also know my prayers are with your whole family now that Phil’s mom has been diagnosed. I believe that prayer is powerful.
I’ve enjoyed following your successes and beautiful children. I have two children of my own and teach 8th grade science in Tempe. Your college apartments are now condos!
Take good care of yourself.

Hey, I like your spam protector! I sincerely hope that both of the women in your life try to go another route than the “prescribed method”. Cancer is very curable with other routes and do not require surgery or chemo or radiation. I don’t know if you know that but it sounds as if you have not even been given the choice everyone should. Go down to Mexico - it’s close for you - or get some apricot seeds and start to eat them everyday (it can’t hurt you) or, if you really want fast treatment - go to phoenix tears web site and watch the video.
It doesn’t take long and can save you a lot of heartache.
July 8th, 2009 at 9:14 pm
Amy, Mary, Phil & Family,
I will keep you all in my prayers as you go through these trying times. Know that the Lord will give you the strength to endure the coming days.

Phil, Amy, Mary and families. No matter how hard this gets remember to “SMILE” it will help when the times are rough. My favorite saying “And this too shall pass” We all have roads that need to be travelled and some are bumpier then others, but no matter what at the end of the road is love awaiting so “Smile”

My good thoughts to you all. My wife was diagnosed with breast cancer this last February. After a double mastectomy in April, she is doing well. We will continue to be positive. Phil, you have always entertained us with your daring feats on the course. Thanks for supercharging the PGA tour. It’s not the same without you. To Larry Kidman: I feel so sorry for you.

To Phil and Amy, My thoughts and prayers are with you at this difficult time. Phil has been my favorite since he won as an amateur. I was walking scorer for him twice in 1995 at Shinnecock and again at Bethpage in 2009. He and Amy are the type of people we want our children to emulate. Phil,
I am a huge fan of yours. You are a model golfer for us all. Your smile and pleasant attitude is what caused me to be your supporter when I first watched you play. Keep that winning attitude during this trying time ahead of you and it will help Amy and your Mom. I will keep them and your family in my prayers.
I got to see you play at the Ryder’s Cup in Louisville this past year. It was a dream come true.
May God keep bless you.

Dear Phil,
I HAVE SENT THIS INFORMATION TO PEOPLE WITH CANCER BEFORE. Please don’t ignore it. This is the natural cure for cancer. It will kill any remaining cancer in your wife and your mother. It is a compound in most fruit seeds called laetrile. The highest amount is found in apricot seeds. You can order organic apricot seeds from a farm in Canada that I have bought from many times before at http://www.ourfathersfarm.com. They should each take around 6 or 7 seeds a day, around two with each meal. Please do this as soon as possible until all the cancer is gone. Anyone else who is reading this, please do the same for anyone that you know who has cancer.
Thanks,
Chris

Phil - I am a huge fan of yours, not only because you are a gifted golfer and fun to watch, but because you have exhibited exemplary class both on and off the course. I admire you for doing what is right - putting family first.
I cried when I heard the news about Amy, and my heart breaks further, now, with the news of your mother. I know that it cannot be easy, but God, family and friends will help give you strength. Know that millions of fans (and people who may not be golf fans, but those with compassion and caring in their hearts), are pulling for Amy and your mother in their battles.
God speed recovery to the two, most important women in your life. I think of you and Amy often, and keep you close in my prayers.
Thanks for being such an amazing role model.

Good luck Phil you and your family don’t deserve this because you give so much pleasure to people with the way you play the game. Keep the faith and stay strong everything will be okay.

Phil, Amy and Mary,
I am a breast cancer survivor of almost 6 years. Mine was caused by, although not proven by my doctor, taking the hormone replacement therapy pills after menopause. Mine was caught very early and I chose to have a mastectomy. I did not have reconstruction though. And I did not have to have chemo. The whole thing was a shock to me and my husband and my kids. But I am fine now and you will be too. Have faith in God and your doctors. My prayers are with you.
July 10th, 2009 at 11:04 pm
Our thoughts are with you & your entire family.
God bless

Keep the Faith. As your family is a model for many to follow, these events will provide evidence of Mickelson Family strength and compassion. The golfing world is praying for the doctors and staff to have the resources to remove the cancer and bring about a complete recovery to Amy and Mary Mickelson.
May God bless and keep you and yours.
July 11th, 2009 at 4:22 am
Dear Phil - you are doing the right thing by not playing in the British Open. What could be as important as your family? Nothing. Enjoy the time you have together and I hope your wife and mother can keep a positive attitude about their situations - I feel this helps so much. Most of us have not been spared when it comes to dealing with cancer with our family and/or friends and I am certainly one of those people who have had to endure the heartache associated with cancer. I hope you have a large support system and my suggestion to you is just spend time with each other and I pray that your wife and mother are able to fight this battle and both become survivors! My thoughts and prayers are with you all.
July 11th, 2009 at 4:43 am

July 11th, 2009 at 5:31 am
Phil and Amy, As the daughter of an ovarian cancer survivor, I understand what you are going through. I know the fear, the stress, the questions, and that darn waiting. But I also know the power of prayer, the laughing, and the positive attitude that is needed to get through this. I’m so sorry you are all having to go through this and then to have your mom diagnosed. Now that, I can’t imagine. Momma had her surgery 4 years ago at the age of 72 and she is doing great. Keep the faith and know that many people are praying for your healing and your strength.

I might be only 16 years old, but I know very well how important family is, not depending on the age… You´re a great guy and you´ve got a fabulous personality, which will make it easy for you to support your family and encourage them to keep on fighting.
God bless your family !
All the best !

Dear Phil, I was left speechless by this terrible news. I’m so sorry. Anyhow, nowadays cancer is not what it used to be years ago: It can be defeated, particularly breast cancer. I’m sure the surgeons and doctors will play their parts, but what is going to make a difference is your love and support, those of your other family members, and the huge love from your friends and supporters, including mine. They will make it !

July 12th, 2009 at 2:39 am
Phil,
As the husband of a brest cancer survivor, just wanted to pass on our experience and to assure you and your family that you can win the fight with cancer. My wife was diagnosed in Sept 96 and at the time my mind ran wild as to what the future might be. Since then we have been through chemo, radiation and reconstruction surgery and 13 years later my wife is cancer free! God has blessed us greatly and for that we are very thankful. She was treated at M D Anderson and you all will find they are the best at what they do. Stay strong, keep the faith, a positive attitude and this nightmare will be over soon. God bless you and yours!
As a side note I am a lefty and I appreciate the way you approach the game of golf and the way you carry yourself both on and off the course. Winning is important but its not everything. In the scheme of things family and friends are what matters
July 12th, 2009 at 11:02 pm
Phil,
We hope the best for you and your family.I have gone through what you are now and it is a very difficult time. We wish there was something we could do to lighten your load. God bless all of you.
July 12th, 2009 at 11:08 pm
Phil,
You are such a class act. My whole family thinks you are the greatest. Even my 75 year old Mother is crazy about you. My wife and I took her to the 2009 St. Jude tournament just so she could see you. It was such a thrill for her. Please be assured that you, Amy, your Mother, and the rest of your family are in our thoughts and prayers. Have faith in God and he will get you through.
July 12th, 2009 at 11:10 pm
Phil, I have followed you since your win as an amateur. I love the way you take the time to interact with the fans and all the autographs you sign on a consistent basis. My prayers are with Amy, Your Mother Mary and the Mickelson Family.
July 13th, 2009 at 12:36 am
To Amy and Mary,
Unless you have been diagnosed with cancer, no one really knows what goes through your mind and thoughts. The “C” is hard to soak in, but trust me, after the surgery and treatments, this too shall pass. The support of your family and doctors are the reason you come out of this. They will do the best they know how for you both. And to Phil, we look forward to the day you and Amy are back on the golf course. Love to you all, Brenda and Gene

July 15th, 2009 at 12:34 am
Past: I met Phil many years ago down in San Diego. My husband was playing with the Chargers and Stan H invited us to watch Phil play.
Present: Both my mother and I have undergone treatment for breast cancer. We both lost a breast, had chemo, and radiation. We also went through it at the same time…my poor father! But, I am writing to say that both my mother and I are healthy. I went through reconstruction and have a nice perky pair, my mom decided to have the other breast removed and go flat. We are both content with our decisions and know that Amy and Mary will also be healthy soon. In closing…GIRLS, GET YOUR MAMMOGRAMS! Neither my mother or I would have lost a whole breast if we had gone yearly for our check ups.

I just want to tell you that the journey of going thru surgery, chemo, (and depending on the situation) radiation is just a temporary road. Losing your hair is only temporary too. I am a 4 yr BC survivor and as I was going thru the chemo and radiation, I held fast to the LORD. I kept my faith in HIM and I know that I’m ok now. My husband was also my number one support. He has always been there for me. He took care of of me and our sons when I couldn’t because of chemo, etc. I’m sure that you will be there for them too. Your wife and mother will be ok. Hold on to the faith, please. My prayers are with you guys. God Bless You all.

When I first heard about Amy’s diagnosis, I was sincerely saddened. I have seen you play golf live in tournaments in California and have seen Amy in the gallery. And just today I heard about your Mom! Phil, you and your family are in my thoughts and prayers during this very difficult and emotional time in your life. Mr. Mickelson:
I hope everything is going smoothly for you wife and mother. I too was diagnosed with breast cancer 11/2 years ago and am now cancer free. It did spread into my nodes and I had to have a double mastectomy. The chemo was a little tough but I am stronger and healthier than ever. I know your family will be the same in another year. I do have a very large favor. My son in law is dying of cancer. He was given three weeks 5 months ago and is still going pretty strong considering. If you are going to be in the PGA could we bring him to you possibly one day so he can shake your hand. He thinks you are the greatest. We only pray that he will still be with us then. My husband and I have tickets and would bring him along. It would be the greatest. Best of luck to you and your family. Our prayers are with you. Prayers go a very long way. Thanks.

Our thoughts and prayers are with you, your lovely wife and mother during this most difficult time. I’ve had a niece, 2 dear friends and my beautician go through breast cancer over the past few years. The support they received and continue to receive has kept them going. You have 3 beautiful children. We were at Pinehurst the year you were waiting for that beeper to go off for the first one!! We pray that all will go well for your wife and mother with their treatment and recovery.
July 20th, 2009 at 1:33 am
Phil, please know that as scary as breast cancer can be, oddly enough, a great deal of good comes out of it. You learn that people you never knew would care and are willing to pray for you. You learn how precious life can be and how brave your loved ones are. Watching their anxiety is the worst part. It’s been six years for me and every day has been precious. I continue to pray for you…and your family as others did for me. Life is given perspective.
July 20th, 2009 at 4:41 am
Phil,
I couldnt imagine how difficult it has been to stay positive and hold your head high during such a private but public diagnosis. I know Tina has said many times that your family is so strong. I have been praying for your wife and now your Mom. This time will only strengthen your love and total committment for your wife, your Mom, your children and everyone else in your immediate and extended family. COntinued prayers and speedy recoveries~

Dear Mickelson,
As a breast cancer survivor of two plus years, I know personally what God leads us to he leads us through. I never felt closer to God and knew angels were carrying me. I could not have gone through it without Him or them. I pray that you too have given this up to God and that your experience will be as faith strengthening as mine. May God bless and protect you.

Dear Mickelson’s,
Sometimes bad things happen to good people. It is in these times that a deeper level of faith can develop. These circumstances are very sad but you will find true spirituality. You have the gift of desperation that will produce a faith that moves mountains.
July 24th, 2009 at 6:56 pm
Amy, Phil, and Family,
Our hearts just break with all the things your family is going through at this time, but we rejoice at how you have put yourselves out there for people to be able to see and talk to, to be able to let you know how much you are cared for. Phil, I am also so sorry about your mother’s diagnosis, but I pray that God will heal both Amy and Mary, and that through this they will be able to reach out and help other women going through the same thing. I lost my mother to breast cancer January 25, 1991. I was 32 years old with two young children. To say the least I was devastated, but I know that God is in control, and I trusted Him to get me through, and He did and still does. I know that I have not truly lost her, as I know where she is. So many advances have been made since then, and I believe that if God wills you precious ladies will come out on top. I would just like you to know that our family holds yours in prayer. God truly is in control. Trust Him.

Phil: My wife and I were just wondering how Amy and your Mom are doing. We want you to know they are in our prayers for healing. We admire you for demonstrating to the world the importance of family over anything else. Golf will always be there for you so spend as much time with Amy and your Mom as you can. It will strengthen them.

Dear Phil, Amy and Mary,
You have been my thoughts and prayers since I heard about Amy and Mary. I am a six year servivor. I was diagnosed in July of 2003
In October of 2003 Phil you were playing and Innesbrook in Florida we had just moved to Florida from Michigan for me to start my treatments of six chemo’s and I can’t remember how many radiation treatments. I had stage two Breast Cancer. God made me strong and helped me threw it, I know he will do the same for you, stay postive and the two of you will do well. The tour definitely misses you Phil- it just isnt as much fun to watch since you’ve been gone. BUT your absence is understood and my best to those wonderful women in your life, your mom and Amy. Having you beside them I’m sure has been the best medicine. We will see you when your family is feeling 100% again!

Phil,
Each day since I heard that Amy and your mom Mary have been diagnosed with breast cancer, I have thought about you and your family. My thoughts and prayers are with you. Three years ago, I was given 4-6 months with ovarian cancer. You will note that I am still hacking my way up the fairway….. I will continue to keep you and yours in my prayers.

Dear Amy and Mary,
I”m late in finding out about your illness. God bless you and my prayers are with you. I have just finished watching Phil win the Fed Ex tournament and that is where I found out about you. I have had cancer too. I have recently researched Resvertrol. It is showing great promise for curing many diseases. I use it now myself. It will soon be available in a anti ageing drink called Nutra Resveratrol. Check it outand ask myour care givers.
Best wishes to you both.

First of all i am very sorry that your wife and mother have had to go through cancer at the same time and I wish them both the best. I am also going through the same thing in my family. My wife Gail and my 3 month old grandson Nathan Moran have both been diagnosed with cancer. My wife has adenocarcinoma of unknown primary and my grandson has rhabdomyosarcoma. Both of them have just began chemo treatments. My grandson cannot have any type of surgery at this time due to the cancer involving his spine and nerves of the spine. He spent 9 day at UVA Hospital and may soon go to Sloan Ketering Inst for Cancer i New York, New York. This maybe his only hope. Please keep us in your thoughts and prayers and we will continue to pray for your family.

Phil know this , your mom and wife are in our prayer’s , we are praying for both of them and you too phil, as it is very very hard on you also , I know you want to take that illness away from them both and take it into your self but that’s only cause you love them both so much and yet you know that’s not ever going to happen , the same as it was for my poor pammy, Phil we will continue to pray for Amy and Mary to be healed by our lord and God , Know through our prayer’s and god any thing is possible , im flat out proof of that , thank you phil for the signed 8×10 you sent during our terrible time in our life , i didnt think i’d even be here today to even enjoy, yet it was so uplifting at the time only through a lot of prayers and the lords love I get to enjoy it today ,there is a lot of hope out there and a lot of people praying for you and amy and mary so have absolute faith Amy and Mary will both have the same done for them both by our lord god almighty . I’ve always been a good decent man but i did more than my share of sinning in my life and the lord still stepped in on my behalf ,why i dont know ,maybe it was me being humbled so many times or the 3 grandkids that came after that or the church members prayer’s or my pammy’s prayer’s all i know is the lord did so the lord sure can do the same for you all . sincerely Mr Holifield

Hello there! I know this is kinda off topic however , I’d figured I’d ask.
Would you be interested in exchanging links or maybe guest authoring a blog article or
vice-versa? My blog addresses a lot of the same topics as yours and I feel we could greatly benefit from each other.
If you might be interested feel free to send me an e-mail.
I look forward to hearing from you! Awesome blog by the way!

It was a startling discovery which led to this component employed in some of the
best notch whitening pores and skin lotions nowadays. ). But the irony is that when we are young we don’t give a thought
about them.
